Polish Linen – meet us and our ancestors

We are a continuation of the rich traditions of our ancestors, who have had a significant impact on the development of our region.

For centuries, Kamienna Góra was seen as a town in which the weaving craft played a major role, and then the textile industry was widely developed. In the Middle Ages, weaving appeared in the craft settlement around the town walls as one of the leading craft industries. Natural conditions made flax (linen plant) more likely to be grown and the population of the town and the population of the town and the surrounding villages earned their living by selling products resulting from its processing.

Since XIII, textile production was organized by guilds.

New textile specializations have been introduced, such as cloth weavers, linen weavers, linsey-woolsey makers, spinners, linen combers, dyers, and shearers. In 1521, a linen makers’ guild was established in Kamienna Góra, associating forty craftsmen. In the years 1526-1617, there was a significant economic boom in the Duchy of Świdnica. Home weaving developed. The purchase of linen cloth and its export outside of Silesia were organized on a large scale. Kamienna Góra has become one of the main centers of production and trade in linen.

The linen cloth from Kamienna Góra reached
the farthest corners of the world.

In the 18th century, Silesian linen was exported to England, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Dani, Norway, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Transylvania, Turkey, Switzerland, Saxony. The Kamienna Góra’s products also reached the markets of Africa and the Americas. The products, of very high quality, were sold at attractive prices.

The second half of the 18th century brought about a significant deterioration in the situation of Silesian linen weavers.

Local weavers accused the price-manipulating merchants of hunger and poverty. This led to the outbreak of revolts by weavers.

In the 19th century, the era of industrial revolution began in Lower Silesia.

Technical progress affected the development of the textile industry and machine production was used at the earliest.

The development of the textile industry in Kamienna Góra

Polish Linen for us is more than a textile and clothing company.

It is also a continuation of the achievements of our ancestors, who had a significant impact on the development of the textile industry in our country.
We want to maintain tradition and memory of their achievements.
